    About

IMPORTANT if you would like to join the community, make sure the maintainer has some way to contact you (at least one public journal entry they can comment on, an email address posted or some other means of contact). Unfortunately, if there is no way for the maintainer to contact you, your application will be automatically rejected. Please keep this in mind when joining.

The maintainer is [info]frickinmuck. If you need to contact her, please click here.

This is a venue for general discussion on topics related to the communications industry and critical discussion of issues such as advertisements, campaigns, strategy, ethics and branding. It's not a venue for personal work. If you're looking for discussion around design & development of branding & advertising, and critiques/discussion of your own work, please check out [info]graphicdesign.

Guidelines for Participating in the Community

1 Stay on-topic. Marketing communications, communication design, art direction, advertising, public relations and all things related are the primary focus here. Posts that aren't directly related to these subjects may be removed from the community and directed elsewhere. Remember: this is a community where you can discuss advertising and marketing, not where you can advertise or market your product or service.
2 Check the community tags before posting
    3 No illegal activity allowed.
4 Use an informative title so that others will be able to skim easily and understand the subject matter of your post (i.e. "Great new fall Adidas campaign" is good, "Adidas" or "Great ad" is too general).
5 Refrain from posting contests or other forms of spec work here. For more information, visit no-spec.com.
6 Avoid generating or participating in conflict and/or drama. If you find yourself in an ugly or uncomfortable situation, contact the maintainer. Please do not screen or delete other people's comments, or take things into your own hands. In all disagreements, stay on topic and avoid personal judgments or attacks.
7 Keep posts respectful and civilized. We are here to discuss the topics at hand in a rational, mature way. Posting material simply to mock or denigrate it will not be tolerated. Critical discussion is welcome, but it must be constructive and reasoned.
8 Use an lj-cut when making lengthy or image-heavy posts, and when posting videos. If you are unsure how to use an lj-cut, read the instructions here.
9 Use default text settings (no changing colors, using huge text, etc). Remember that many people read community posts from their own journal layouts, and what looks nice on yours may look terrible on theirs. Also, if a post is no longer of use to the community, please delete it rather than striking it out.
10 No advertising without permission. If you would like to advertise something here, please check with the maintainer before doing so.
11 Intro posts are not encouraged here. It's great to hear from new people, but those posts are subject to the same guidelines as any other post - they must be on-topic. If you feel the need to introduce yourself, do so at the beginning or end of a post which is otherwise something of general interest to the group.
12 When asking a question, please try googling it first. It only takes a moment to do a quick background check on your topic before posting here, so that other people's time isn't wasted on simple questions that are easily answered elsewhere.
13 Do not link to posts in your own journal or blog. If you want to post something here, post the whole thing here so that people can view and discuss without having to go elsewhere.
14 Regarding memes, jokes, comics and macros (LOLcats, etc): Memes, jokes, comics and lolcats tend to be copied and pasted all over the internet and sent around via email, so that by the time they reach the community people are often already sick of them. For that reason, posting such things here is discouraged.

Posts that don't adhere to these guidelines may be deleted without notice. People who continually disregard these guidelines - however seemingly small the repeated offense may be - will be banned from the community. Remember, these guidelines are in place to help the members and maintainer, and continually disregarding them becomes a cumulative hassle for everyone.

Tagging of community posts is handled by [info]frickinmuck, who regularly reviews posts for necessary tags, so there is no need to request a tag or take any action.
